“As the way a twig is bent, so tbo plant shall grow,” quoted Mrs. James Rutherford, sent., New Plymouth, who celebrated her 90th birthday on Saturday. She referred to her belief in' home training and the value of home influence. “This moulding of charac-: ter in the early stages of life has a' direct bearing on the welfare of the children during their journey through life,” she said, “and it must be remembered that the children are the men and women of the future.” Mrs. Rutherford is the mother of Lord Rutherford of Nelson, the famous scientist.
