Bishop Stortford. Hertfordshire, wanted ■i new church organ, which would cost £lOOO, but instead of asking for £lOOO the churchwardens asked for farthings. The last report was that £260/8/4 has been collected in farthings, a little more than a quarter of the cost of the organ. Tt Is claimed that the site of the Temple of Eros, long sought by archaeologists, has boon discovered by a young Greek student. The temple was renowned in ancient times, and many Greek authors mention the treasures which it contained, including a statue of Aphrodite bv the great sculptor Praxiteles.
