Jayson Off Schooling List NOTES AND COMMENTS (By “The Watcher.”) The North Island gelding Jayson has been removed from the schooling list, following it satisfactory report from the stipendiary steward. Earlier in bis career he was a bad actor at the barrier, but his manners were reformed during a period of racing over hurdles. He behaved well on both days at Treiitliam, where he raced very generously, winning the hurdle event on the first day. and running second to Pahu on Monday. His Third Try.

Autopay will make his third appearance in the Stewards’ Handicap next Saturday. He won two years ago with 7.2, while last year he was unplaced with 9.6. He has 9.2 in next week’s contest, in which in his present form he looks like running very prominently. He will be ridden by D. O’Connor, who bandied the Paper Money horse when he won the Great Easter Handicap this year. Dropped Dead.

After galloping six furlongs in Imin. 21sec. at Riccarton on Saturday morning, Taunton went on another couple of furlongs, then staggered and fell dead. A five-year-old gelding by Paladin from Sunnybrook, be had had -only half h dozen starts, and had not won a race. He was being trained by Mrs. Campbell for Mr. J. H. Watson.

Silver Scorn. There was a possibility that Silver Scorn would not fulfil her engagements at the approaching meeting of the Canterbury Jockey Club, as she was priced recently for an Australian owner. The period for which she was under offer lias expired, however, without any business resulting, so the Silverado filly may be looked on as certain to race at Riccarton. She will compete next Saturday in the Spring Stakes, in which she is likely to be a short-priced favourite, while the Derby, Oaks, and Canterbury Cup are other events in which it is intended to run her. From preynt appearances she vJU have to be reckoned with seriously iu any race she contests.

The Postponed Meetings. The postponement of two race meetings this week caused some inconvenience to more than one Riccarton trainer with horses in need of racing to assist their preparation for the Canterbury Jockey Club's carnival. When it seemed probable that the Motukarara course would not be tit to race on, a suggestion was made that the North Canterbury meeting should be held on Saturday, as the Rangiora course was likely to dc.v up quickly. Unfortunately, there was not time to put this idea into practice, even had the North Canterbury officials favoured it.

Cup Riders. Although a definite engagement has not been made it is almost certain that A. Eastwood will ride Fast Passage in the New Zealand Cup. Eastwood won the race on Chide three years ago, was unplaced on Desert Glow the following year, and 12 months ago was beaten b.v half a length on Admiral Drake. Shatter is likely to have the services' of L. J. Ellis, who' will be free as a result of Merry Peel’s declining his two-mile engugement.

Reminder. ■ ' „ , . Final payments for th? New Zealand Cup Stewards’ Handicap, Welcome, Derby and Oaks Stakes arc due at 8 p.m. to-day, when acceptances for the remaining events on the first day's programme of the Canterbury Jockey Club's Metropolitan meeting, will also be received.

Tlie Quorn. The Quorn advinced m favour for ..lie Stewards’ Handicap as the result oi his good form in ha6k company at the lington meeting. He will be ridden :>y A. Eastwood.

No Luck. . . A Press Association message from Sydney states that at the Canterbury Park races on Saturday the only New Zealanders competing. Lnvingtoh in the Maiden Handicap, and Auda in the second division of the Highweight Handicap were both unplaced.

Rayacre Unlucky. .. If ever a “good thing” went asitray. s'ays a Melbourne writer, it was Buyacre in the Welter at Werribee. Considering that he had been third m a race with 9.J (though an 8.0 minimum) behind Barrajeootboo and Gloriole fit Ha nd wick, he was well in, and his trainer, A. D. Webster, ■was sanguine of success provided Bayacre handled the course. What Occurred at the two-furlong post, on the side ot the course opposite to the stand, it was hard to discern, but Bayncre ran very wide, and lost fully ten lengths. He finished on extra well to gain third place within halt a length of the winner, and must have won in another twenty yards. Backers of Bayacre secured a great price,- out it was no good without the result.

That was on New Zealand Cup day two years ago, and he ran second in the Linwood Handicap to lluvaspot, who is now m Australia. There is no question about Cadlaud being a class sprinter, and Ins is an excellent record. In thirty-seven starts he has scored thirteen wins, been second six times, third on five occasions, and unplaced in thirteen races. He did not race at two years. His performances last season included several rcallv good efforts. At Trentham lie won the Citv Handicap with 9.9 from Anlopay 8.13 in Imin.
