ANNUAL ATHLETIC SPORTS

Wellington East Girls’ College For the first time in the school’s history the annual sports of the Wellington'East Girls’ College were held on the school’s own grounds yesterday afternoon, when the first real sunshine of the week made its appearance. Two years ago the Parents’ Association began the apparently Impossible task of creating grounds and playing fields out of a bare hillside, and to-day the result can be seen in tbe excellent games field of over an acre, the two other terraced lawns, and the garden beds, as well as an. effective approach to the college through fine bronze gates given by the late Airs. Ames. Further terracing, and tree-planting, arc planned to complete the scheme. Ateuibera of tbc Board of Governors and of tbc Parents’ Association, principals of other colleges, and many old girls and friends, were present to watch the events. •Miss Batham. principal of the college, entertained a number of guests at tea in her study, which was decorated with Iceland poppies in the new pale shades.
