HUTT PARK TROTS

New Zealand Cup Trial A REVIEW. OF FORM

(By

“Overcheck.’’)

To-day 1 give briefly particulars of tbo more recent performances of horses engaged in the New Zealand Cup Trial aud the Borough Handicaps, to be run at the Wellington Trotting Club's meeting on Saturday:— The latest information al the time of writing is that Hiss Hinds intends to send Harold Logan up to the meeting. Even without him the Cup Trial field is sufficiently strong to ensure a great race, but. everyone has been hoping to see the champion jn action, and his presence at the meeting will give added interest thereto. Cup Trial Handicap. Gleurossic contested four races at Addington in August, being placed third to Impromptu and Rollo in the Speedway Handicap, of ten furlongs. He went 2.45 2-5 from a 2.43 mark, the track being ou the dead side. King Pointer lias contested six races during the present season, running second nt Addington in August iu the King George Handicap, of two miles, the race being won by Red Shadow, who was conceding 12 yards. King Pointer has not won since November, .1930, when he captured the Fret-for-all at Addington iu 2.39 4-5. Logan's Pride has not raced for a long time, and he will probably find the present company too strong for him. In the 1930-31 season he showed considerable promise, but unfortunately went wrong. Royal Silk won the mile and a quarter event from Harold Logau at Oauiaru on Saturday, and he is one of the best horses in commission at the present time. At AVellington in January of last year he won the Gold Cup in the smart time of 4.24. 4-5, defeating Glenrossie, . who was conceding 24 yards, by three lengths. Terence Dillon had his first race of the season at Oamaru, when he finished third to Royal Silk and Harold Logan. Last October he ran third on the same course, registered 2.41 from a 2.42 mark. He has a record of 4.20 1-5 at two miles, registered in the first division of the New Zealand Cup Handicap in the 193031 season. Impromptu has raced five times this season, winning two races of 10 furlongs. At Addington he won from a good field in 2.46 from a 2.44 mark, while he was again successful at New Brighton in 2.41 from 2.43. It was in this race that Harold Logan established his world’s record of 2.38 2-5. Impromptu usually runs best on a firm track, conditions which may not apply on Saturday. Carmel has faced the starter on five occasions this season, without earning anything toward his keep. He has a winning record of 2.42 2-5 at 10 furlongs. aud a placed performance of 2.40 1-5. His best effort at two miles from a time point of view was that registered by him at Auckland in December, 1930, when he went 4.23 from 4.26. Red Shadow is a particularly brilliant young horse. Until the present season he was generally regarded as lacking m stamina, but the manner iu which he won two races of a mile ».t Addington in August necessitated a revision of opinion on the pointy He has a winning performance of 2.45 3-5 over 10 furlongs, this being registered from a 2.43 mark. Harold Logan needs no introduction. Suffice to say that he has a record of 4.13 2-5 at two miles, and 2.38 2-5 at 10 furlongs. He is sure to have a large following.

Borough Handicap. Arthur Chimes raced, consistently last season, taking records of 2.55 1-5 at 10 furlongs, and 3.32 at a mile and a half. David McElwyu raced well at the last AVellington meeting, winning over a mile and a half in 3.27 4-5. and being placed third at 10 furlongs, which he covered in 2.55 2-5 from a 2.59 mark. He is on the up-grade. Hard AVords has two placed performances out of four starts during the present season. At New Brighton he registered 3.29 4-5 at 12 furlongs, while at Ashburton last month he registered 2.54 2-5 for 10 furlongs. He is a likely improver. Indianapolis is a Derby aspirant and is gaining a, large number of admirers for the classic event. At New Brighton early in the current month he ran third over 10 furlongs, which he covered in 2.49 4-5. At Oamaru ou Monday he ran second to Craganour over 12 furlongs. The latter’s form has been particularly good of late and this points strongly to Indianapolis being a strong contender for major honours on .Saturday. Little A’ictor has started three times this season for a win and a third. At New Brighton in September he ran third over 12 furlongs in 3.30, while on the same course early in the present month he won in 3.211-5 from a 3.40 mark. Mihad has done no gubd so far this season, but last year she showed fair form, winning one race and being placed in three others. Her smartest time at 12 furlongs is 3.31 2-5. Smooger raced well at Hawke’s Bay last season, going 2.53 1-5 for 10 furlongs and 3.304-5 for 1* miles. ■ He raced unsuccessfully at the last AVellington meeting. Native Berry ran third at the last AVellingtou. meeting, registering 3.28 2-5 from 3.34. He has at times ruined his chances by bad behaviour at the post. AVorthy Queen is one of the most promising trotters in New Zealand, and her performance against the, pacers will be watched with much interest in view of her forthcoming engagements at Addington. She has a record of 3.32 at 12 furlongs and 4.36 2-5 at 2 miles. Novice and Short Handicaps.

Most of the horses engaged in these two handicaps have no public form to their credit. Information concerning those that have '"'ill be supplied in the final review of form which will be published to-morrow.
