Mr. Hal G. Evarts, of Los Angeles, an American author; is a through passenger by the Makura, which continues its journey to-day to San Francisco. Captain L. C. A. Worrall, of Wellington, returned by the Makura yesterday from a holiday trip to New South Wales. Dr. A. L. Lewis, governing director of a chain of commercial schools in California, and president of the City Club (Hollywood), is a visitor to Wellington. Mr. T. W. Leslie,, who was official starter at the Olympic Games at Los Angeles, and Mrs. Leslie are passengers on the Monowai, due here from San Francisco on September 19. Mr. A. R. Sclanders was elected by the Council of the New Zealand Golf Association at last night’s meeting to fill the vacancy on the council caused by the death of the late Colonel R. O. Chesney. Mr. E. G. Willems, Detroit; Mr. K. Karmel, Mr. J. S. Wilkinson, and Mr. J. K. Johnston, Sydney; and Mr. Hector Christie, Wanganui, are at the Hotel St. George. Mr. G. S. Poole, Mr. Alex Harvey, and Mr. T. M. Hawes, Auckland; and Mr. A. E. Harding, Dargaville, are at the Grand Hotel.
