Monthly Meeting Held REPORTS ON ACTIVITY - The monthly meeting of the Royal New Zealand Society for the Health of Women and Children was held recently, Mrs. Tythe-Brown being in the chair. The Blanket Nurses’ report stated that the total number of new cases was 146, the total visits to homes 1559, and total visits to offices, adults 2339, babies 1765, and children 302. The number of babies wholly breastfed was 113, number of babies partially breastfed IS, number of babies artificially fed 15, expectant mothers, new cases, 35, and expectant mothers still under supervision 184. The nurses thank the following ladies for driving them during the month:— Misses Cooper, Myers, Thompson, Mesdames Jack, Welsh and Green. Also the following for parcels of clothing:— Mesdames Norman, Rabone, Frost, Eccles, Lewis, Caverhill, Gray, Thomson, Robson, Booker, Magee, Newton, Morgan (Moana Sewing Bee), Good, Smith, Priestley, Potham, Blundell, Stevens, Itankin, Slack, Johnson, Murphy, the Denhard Bakery for bread for distribution for needy cases, and Miss Barnett for books. Also the following for Emulsion and Karilac for poor babies for the past two months:—Mesdames Crawford, Hodson, Hannah, McEldownay, Richardson, Pearce, Island Bay Sub-Committee. Lyall Bay Sub-Committee, Central Committee members. The report of the matron of the TrubyKing Karitane Hospital stated that admissions for the month were 7 mothers and 15 babies. Six mothers and 14 babies were discharged. The length of stay of mothers in hospital ranged from 1 day to 17 days, and babies from 1 day to 9 weeks. Patients were admitted from Wellington and suburbs and. from Pongaroa, There were 405 visitors shown over the hospital during the month. The six Karitane nurses who sat for their examinations in July were successful in passing. The matron thanks Mr. Huse for cream which he kindly sends weekly; Messrs. Gopal and Mazzola for- fruit, and Mrs. Girdlestone and Misses Bowen and Bennett for flowers. The committee placed on record its appreciation of the recognition that the Board of Trustees of the T. G. McCarthy Trust always give to the work of the Plunket Society, and passed a vote of thanks for the grant given this year of £4OO toward the Phthket nursing service and £B5 toward the Truby-King Karitane Hospital. The president spoke of the loss the nursing service had received through the death of Miss Hester Maclean. The committee expressed their regret at the great loss the community had sustained in her death and a resolution of sympathy with her relatives was passed.
