RUAPEHU SKI CLUB
Review of Year’s Efforts TRACKS AND EQUIPMENT The report of the Ruapehu Ski Club, to be submitted to the annual meeting at Chateau Tongariro next Tuesday, shows a membership of 220. a figure equal to that last year. It is stated that the National Park Board has adopted one of the club’s recommendations for safety measures, and this has resulted in the formation of a track along the 11-milo bush line between the Chateuu-Siliea Springs track aud the Ohakune Hut. The route is now well marked with about 4-10 poles, an accomplishment for which the club extends its appreciation to Mr. T. A. Blyth, a member of both the club and the park board. The dub has purchased a barograph for installation at the Chateau, and it is expected that this will afford visitors valuable weather information. The report records ..that the Federated Mountain Clubs of New Zealand is a useful organisation, and it is expected. that a ski council of this body will shortly be elected. The hope that members will take an active interest in ski-jumping is expressed in the report, and it is stated suitable jumps have recently been prepared. Other benefits recently effected are the provision of a camping area aud improvement of the track to the ski grounds. Further reading is desirable, and the club has made representations for relief work labour to be engaged. The accounts show a satisfactory position, and after meeting all expenses during the past year £9 was added to the accumulated fund, which now totals £4OO. The assets include £l7O in cash. It is stated that while there is a substantial cash balance in hand, funds will be utilised shortly in the purchase of additional equipment.
