GELDING DOPED
Alkaloid Poisoning (By Telegraph.—Press Aasn.—Copyright.) Melbourne, xXugust 18. The, five-year-old gelding Valmist, by Valaisian, who was engaged in two events at the Wcrribce races yesterday, was found lying in his box in agony, the victim of a doping plot. Beside' the animal was a bundle of grass not placed there by his owner-trainer, R. Fishwick. A veterinary surgeon found that the horse showed symptoms of alkaloid poisoning, but owing to the skilful administration of another preparation which had dried up the saliva a swab could not be taken. The horse recovered rapidly after being given an alkaloid antidote.
