Institute of Secretaries ENCOURAGING RESPONSE Steps- to secure the legal and commercial recognition of members of the New Zealand Division of the Australasian Institute of Secretaries, are being taken by the Wellington branch. At its annual meeting, the president, Mr. C. S. Falconer, said that tile replies received from the various hanks regarding representations for recognition of the institute diploma had been of a very encouraging nature, and it was hoped, at an early date, to make a satisfactory announcement regarding the attitude of the Public Service Commissioner toward the diploma. “With the tendency to conduct busineses registered under the Companies Act, there appears to be a great future for the fully qualified company secretary, and with the problems which are dally becoming more and more complex it is only the highly qualified and trained company secretary who will be able tb assist his directors through to prosperity,” Mr. Falconer said. The anual report stated that there had been a large number of inquiries regarding the examinations of the institute, and it was anticipated that the number of candidates who would sit at the examination next month would comprise a record for Wellington.. It was decided to urge the New Zealand Divisional Council to bring the resolution passed at the last biennial conference, regarding the legal recognition of secretaries, before the New Zealand Government at an early date. Officers were elected as follow:— President, Mr. C. S. Falconer; vicepresident, Mr. F. H. Bass; secretary, Mr. W. F. Morrison; advisory committee, Mr. S. G. Dailey, Mr. W. R. Mathieson.
