Big Canal & Power Project COMPLICATED AGREEMENT Washington, July 13. . United States State Department officials to-day confirmed a recent statement of the Premier of Ontario, Mr. G. S. Henry, that the St. Lawrence waterways agreement would probably be signed within a week or two. Long-distance telephone conversations between Ottawa and Washington are ironing out the remaining details of the great international canal and power project, which it is estimated will cost 800,000,000 dollars. Memoranda upon the .principal features of a complicated agreement have been agreed upon'in the main, according to both Canadian and United States officials, and the work of bringing them into one document is progressing rapidly. ~, More than 2,000,000 horse-power will be developed in the international section, according to the estimates. An official statement was issued today regarding the St. Latvrence seaway, stating that an announcement would be made from the Prime Minister’s office that after a long period of intensive negotiation an outline of a treaty was concluded In the middle of June, and the final terms settled yesterday. A formal treaty is now being prepared, and will be ready for signature at an early date, at which time a full statement by the Governments concerned will be issued.
