Guarantee by Britain and Other Nations LEAGUE COUNCIL ACTS (Rec. July 14, 5.5 p.m.) Official wireless Rugby, July 13. Major W. E. Elliot, Financial Secretary to the Treasury, in the House of Commons to-day said that a delegation of the League of Nations Financial Committee and Government experts had held further meetings during the session of the Lausanne Conference and had completed their work. They recommended that the British, French, Italian and certain other Govei mients should guarantee loans to Austria to a total of approximately £9,000.000. . . , The guarantee of the British Government would be limited to the issue on the London market of the equivalent of 100 million Austrian gold schillings. The proceeds would be used to repay the advance made by the Bank of England last year in anticipation of the issue of a loan by Austria. The question would be dealt with by the Council of the League within the next day or two. POLITICAL CLASHES Stern Measures in Prussia Bv Telegraph—Press Assn. —Copyright. Berlin, July 13. Stern measures are being taken in Prussia to check political clashes. The police have been ordered to arrest everyone illegally possessing firearms. Cabinet has appealed to the people to prevent the streets being increasingly painted with blood. Communists and Nazis fought at Cologne throughout the night. The latter were twice ambushed, and twenty were wounded.
