RELIEF OF DISTRESS

Co-ordination of Effort MASTERTON ? S NEW SCHEME ' Dominion Special Service. Masterton, June 23. Representatives of twenty organisations interested in distress relief work in Masterton met in conference this afternoon, and made arrangements for co-ordination of effort. . It was decided that a central relief committee should be set up, this committee to consist of one representative of each of the organisations interested. It was suggested that this committee could appoint a small executive committee to meet more frequently than the main body. The committee will have an office in town, and three men who have been appointed by the unemployment committee under a relief scheme to attend to work of the Unemployed Workers Self-Help Club, wil lattend to the secretarial work of the new organisation. Mr; J. Jameson, on behalf of the Rotary Club, promised that a telephone would be provided, and that the club would undertake the supervision of a card index system relating to goods received and distributed, which will be kept there bv means of this system. A check will be kept on all relief work being done, and overlapping will be prevented. The mayor, Mr. T. Jordan, who presided at the meeting, said that this was required so that they could make the most of their resources.
