BEAUTIFYING GREENS

Hutt Bowling Clubs WORK AT EASTBOURNE There are several bowling greens in the Wellington Centre the surroundings of which are beautifully kept, being ornamented with banks of flowers or garden plots, but the palm must be awarded to the Hutt Valley. At Eastbourne, where the whole surroundings have been considerably beautified in recent years, including re-building of a. pavilion, arrangements are in hand in view of the Dominion tournament next January for making a special display of flowering, foliage, and bedding plants. The main feature will be the northern bank, which is fronted by four fine specimens of nikau palm. Behind the pavilion and on either side the grape vine and passion plants have trailed their ways up the, banks, and into the adjoining bush, while stately rata trees make a picturesque , background. There is ample accommodation for members and visitors, and it is anticipated that the Eastbourne green will be popular as a scenic attraction as well as for its playing qualities. Lower Hutt club greens and surroundings are also very attractive with bright garden plots, and .green hedges, while adjoining are the croquet lawns and tennis courts. Petone, Central, Upper Hutt and Woburn clubs all intend doing their utmost to get the greens in the best possible playing condition for the national event.
