TWO CHINESE FINED

Rotorua, April 9.

Minimum fines of £25 ou each charge were imposed on two Chinese, Wong Chang and Yang Chong, who pleaded guilty to being found in possession of prepared opium, pipes, and utensils for smoking. . The charges followed police raids on Friday evening, when a party of police forced an entrance into premises occupied by Chang at Ngapuna, and subsequently searched the shop occupied by Chong in Rotorua. The police stated that there is no suggestion of other persons resorting to tbe premises for tbe purpose of smoking, and the magistrate stated he would iiare imposed a smaller fine if the minimum had not been fixed by Act of Parliament.
