STRONGROOM OPENED

Petone Post Office Entered INTRUDER DISTURBED An attempt to rob tbe strongroom of the Petoue Post Office was made on Saturday morning. Shortly before 6 a.m. Mr. Cooper, an employee of the post office, arrived at work, and on opening the door heard a shuffling noise, and the sound of a window being opened. He Immediately summoned Constable Higgins, who was stationed opposite tbe post office, and the two made a thorough search of the building but without success. The postmaster, Mr. J. A. Louisson, was called, and he discovered that his coat, waistcoat, and trousers wore lying in the passage outside bis room. During the night his trousers bad been hanging over the foot of the bed, and the strongroom keys had been taken from them.

An examination of the strongroom found the door open, and although n considerable amount of money had been left there nothing was missing except the keys, ft is evident, that the intruder was interrupted at bis work by Air. Cooper before be had time to make away with anything. No signs of entry were found.
