MAN STEALS MONEY

Part of Loot Found in Bed SENT FOR SENTENCE Dominion Special Service. Pahiatua, April 9. A charge of breaking and entering the Pahiatua Co-operative Dairy Company’s office at Maiigamutu on April 3 and stealing a cash-box containing £lB in money, was admitted by Stanley Robertson, a young married man and a former employee of the company, when lie appeared before justices ot the peace in the Pahiatua Police Court. The police stated that on interviewing Robertson at his house, he denied all knowledge of tbe theft. On searching liis bedroom, however, five one pound notes, sonic ten shilling notes and silver were found secreted between the wire-work of the bed aud tbe mattress. Accused subsequently took a constable to an outsbed, where £5 12/- in silver was found wrapped in a handkerchief down between some boxes. Accused admitted the offence and took the constable to Maiigamutu to a luacrocarpa hedge, where he pulled the damaged cash-box out of the trees. He admitted having opened the door of the office with a pocket-knife. Roberts was committed to the Supreme'Court at Wellington for sentence. lie was also charged witii stealing a siiirt valued at 15/-, the property of H. L. Pinfold, and on this charge was convicted and sentenced to one month’s Imprisonment. It was stated that during the time he was working nt the factory he had linen living in a bach with Mr. Pinfold and others. Some tilings disappeared, including the shirt, with the theft of which lie was charged.
