THE AGED BUND
Institution in View
ESTIMATED COST, £lO,OOO
The announcement Hint the board of trustees of the .Jubilee Institute for the Blind was anxious to proceed with the erection of a home for elderly blind people who could no longer work, was made by Sir George F’owlds at tbe. annual meeting of subscribers in Auckland last week. Sir George said the board bad had the plan in view for several years. There was in sight over £2600, but the estimated final cost would be certainly not less than £lO,OOO. The present was a good time to build, as building costs had fallen and it would be a substantial contribution toward providing employment during tbe winter, Sir George said. The hoard earnestly hoped that the money would be forthcoming to enable it. to proceed with the project. Tbe scheme would complete the organisation for meeting the various types of cases which came under the board’s charge: primary education for children, training in trades, permanent employment for adults in workshops, and field organisation to assist and finance the old pupils and many active blind people throughout the Dominion. Sir,., George added that it was not right that the board should have to turn away blind men and women who had worked hard for many years.
