New Records in Auckland TARGET AND CLAY BIRDS By Telegraph—Press Association. Auckland, April 10. A phenomena] rille-shooting performance on the Penrose range on Saturday went to the credit of Mr. 0. J. Kobieson, member of the City Defence Rifle Club, who obtained a double range possible over 800 and 000 yards. It was the first occasion on which a double possible has been made on the Penrose range. Mr. Robieson, who is .18 years of age, and an ex-pupil of tbe Mount Albert Grammar School, has been a member of the City club for tbe past three years, r during which time he has shown remarkable promise. He is a. first-rate service shot as well as a long-range shot, and performed well at tbe recent National Rifle Association’s meeting at Trentham. Competing in tbe North Island clay bird championship at Mangere, Mr. M. Pratt (Otorobanga). shot 130 successive birds, creating a New Zealand record. . In the final, eight competitors tied, and in the shoot-off between Mr. Pratt and Mr. J. Winiki (New Plymouth) the lastnamed failed at the 97th bird, leaving Mr. Pratt the winner. They recommenced shooting, Mr. Pratt carrying on to secure his 130 birds straight out. The shooters had to pause at intervals to allow their guns to cool.
