Miss Baber Fare welled on Retirement A most enjoyable “at home” was given last evening in the assembly hall of.Mars<len School, Karori, under the auspices of the committee of the Parents’ Association The occasion was.chosen to bid farewell to Miss E. M. Baber on her retirement from the position of principal of the school, and to present her on behalf of the parents of pupils with a handsome gift of two large easy chairs. The hall looked particularly attractive, the deep blue of the stage curtains forming a graceful background for the spikes of”biue delphiniums, and lupins arranged in bowls. „ , „ * » Mr Burnett, president of the Parents Association, and Mrs. Burnett, with Miss Baber, received the guests. , Miss Baber was wearing black lace with a short white fur coat. Mrs. Burnett wore a black manette frock and coat trimmed with jet. Miss Baber, Mrs. Burnett, and Miss Mayhew, were presented with posies by Miss Knox Gilmer. . On the platform with Miss Baber Miss Mayhew, the new principal, who wore a black georgette frock. Mrs. Sprott. in black with a deep red evening wrap. . ~ , , Mrs. Wallis, m black lace. Mrs. Knox Gilmer, in a frock of black mariette "with brocade trimming. Mrs P. James, black mariette frock. Mrs. Flanagan, hen. secretary. Parents Association, lemon and bronze floral tatfeta with pale bronze velvet bridge coat. Mr. and Mrs. Burnett, Canon P. James, Archdeacon A. M. Johnson. Mr. White, Dr. Marsden. ~ . Songs were given by Mrs. ijionel kelson and Mrs. Townley, and Mrs. Ivan Wilson played in addition to accompanyiujj- • * • . The Parents’ Association committee, which did such excellent work, included: Mesdames Graham Robertson, C. A A nite, Cameron, Knox Gilmer, David Allan, W Whitlock, Ncave, 11. Hopkins. V. Allen. Townley, Gill, H. Steele, Marsden, and Gunn. . , . A large number of parents attended, also the members of the staff, and several of the pupils. Among those who spoke were Mr. Burnett and Canon P. James. Supper brought a very happy party to a close. ___ PROVINCIAL ITEMS Mrs. R. Barton; Lansdowne, Masterton, is on a visit to Havelock North. Mrs. H. Beetham and Miss Bebe Beetham, of Masterton, are visiting Havelock North. Mlgs B. Blamires, of Dunedin, is spending the university vacation with her parents, the Rev. E. O. . and Mrs. Blamires, Hall Street, Masterton. Mr. and Mrs. Nicholson, Ngamatapouri, are visiting Wanganui. Miss Z. Haworth, Wanganui, visited Woodford House to attend the “end-of-vear” celebrations. Miss Mollie Petrie, daughter of Canon Petrie and Mrs. Petrie, has returned to Feilding from a visit to Scotland. , . Mrs. T. Wells has returned to her home up the Wanganui River from a visit to Wanganui. . . Dr. Alexander Wilson, Mrs. Wilson and Miss B. Wilson have returned to Wanganui after a long visit to Great Britain and the Continent. Miss J. Carson, Auckland, is visiting Wanganui. Mrs. R. A. Sutherland, Wanganui, is visiting her brother, Mr. J. Ashwell, Hawera.
Mr. and Mrs. C. L. Duigan were Wangapui visitors to Havelock North for the “end-of-year" functions at Woodford Iloufec.
Mrs. A. Wilson and Miss B. Wilson, Wanganui, visited Havelock North this week-end.
