About the Province Dominion Special Service. Members of the Walrarapa Tramping Club will Visit the Ruamabanga Flats during the week-end, under the leadership of E. Jenkins. Regret at the death of the late Mr. Charles SI. Galpln was expressed at a recent meeting of the Rangltlkel County Council. It was stated that Mr. Galpln had been elected to the council 64 years ago, and mm been the oldest councillor. The Rangltlkel river protection works were the subject of a report at a meeting of the Rangltlkel County Council. It was stated that a conference had been held at Bulls on August 12 with representatives of the council and the Native owners of land along the river bank with the object of obtaining the permission of the Native owners to plant trees before the season became too far advanced. In return for the co-operation of the Native owners It was promised that work would be given during the fencing of the land to be planned. An agreeable decision was arrived at as a result of the conference. The Y.M.C.A. billiards and snooker competition for the Rigg Cup was continued on Thursday night, when Post Office defeated W.F.C.A. by six games to four. Next week Y.M.C.A. will play Druids on Tuesday night and on Thursday Oddfellows will meet W.F.C.A. Pleading guilty to the charge of wilful Indecent exposure and electing to bo dealt with summarily, Allen Cameron Earles, a labourer, aged 83, ★as convicted by Mr. J. L. Stout In the Palmerston North Police Court yesterday morning, and was sentenced to twelve months’ Imprisonment with bard labour. Good progress Is being made with the redecklng of the old wooden bridge over the Manawatu River at the Asbhurst end ot the Gorge. One half of the work ba* been completed, and It Is expected that a total of nearly 64,000 feet of timber will be reThe ironwork of the bridge will be painted at a later date.
