LYCEUM CLUB
Lecture on Fossil Plants An interesting lecture was given nt the Lyceum Club ou Wednesday by Mr. H. W. Lawton, 8.A., F.L.S., on his search for ‘'Mycorrhiza and Polyembryony in Fossil Plants.” He showed slides to illustrate his lecture, and he had also brought specimens of fossil plants in coal, and interested his audience intensely more particularly when they were able to look into his scintillascope and sec the actual disintegration of the atom of the uranium. His casual mention of millions of years as if they were but yesterdays left his hearers almost breathless, as did also his remarks on weight of light and the huge vastness of the universe. At the conclusion he was accorded a hearty vote of thanks, and a dainty supper was then handed round.
