OBITUARY

Captain W. H. Sawyers The death occurred at Wellington early on Saturday morning of Captain W. H. Sawyers, master of the auxiliary scow Fairburn. Captain Sawyers was in command of the Fairburn when she arrived at Wellington early last Friday afternoon, and was taken suddenly ill when berthing the vessel. He was removed to his home and died late that night of bronchial pneumonia. 1 The late. Captain Sawyers, who comes' from a seafaring family, was born at Foxton 48 years ago and served his apprenticeship abroad. His father, Captain W. 11. Sawyers, was for many years master of the Kapiti, and his brother, Captain T. C. Sawyers, and his two sons are at sea. He wns in command of the ili-fnted Moa, which caught fire and sank at Wanganui 17 years ago. Since then he has been in command of the Karainea Shipping Company’s two vessels Nile and Fairburn.
