BETTER BOAT HARBOUR

Dredging at Hutt River Mouth

It Is the Intention of the lleretaungn Boating Club to use. during week-ends, the Hutt River Shingle Company’s dredge near the mouth of the Hutt River for the purpose of improving the club’s harbour. The conditions were that the club would have the use of the dredge free, provided the company was given the material dredged. In view of the uncertainty of the type of material the company made an application to the River Board at its meeting last, night to waive the royalty. Members expressed considerable doubts on the point. It was generally agreed that no shingle that could be used for concrete would be obtained, but considered that soil valuable for gardening purposes would be dredged, and that the company should be made to pay royalty. The chairman (Mr. F. Hemer) and the engineer (Mr. H. Siadden) are going to make inquiries to ascertain just what exactly is the position.
