“CHARLEY’S AUNT” CLUB

Season Opened

A bright beginning was given to the “Charley's Aunt” Club’s social season last evening, when the new captain, Air. R. H. Nimmo. was played in by pipers. W. Smith, sen., and AV. Smith, jun. This was followed by the installation of the captain by Air. Joseph Carr, who performed the ceremony by placing a chain of Brazil nuts about the neck of the chairman. After a' witty address, set to music, Air. Carr welcomed Air. Nimmo, and wished him a very successful season. The chairman replied in a happy speech, the spirit of which was sustained in numerous anecdotes served to the audience between items. Mr. AV. H. Atack was also on the platform. The Atasoiiic Hall, The Terrace, was brightly decorated with orange, blue and green shades and streamers for the occaAs is usual with this club, the pro"ramme, which followed, was of a very high standard of entertainment, the many visitors present showing their appreciation by enthusiastic responses to every item. Sargenson, and Master Noel Walsh; recitations by Aiiss Alary Cooley; soprano solos by -Mrs. Amy Woodward; specialty dance by Air. B. Connell, and Aiiss Irene AVilsbn ; tenor solos, Air. Dems Shean: duet, Airs. Amy Woodward and Mrs. Wilfred Andrews; contralto solo, Airs. Wilfred Andrews! monologues, Air. Norman Aitken; sketch, “The Old Lady Shows her Alanners,” played by Aiiss Gracio Kerr, Aiiss B. Hungerford, Air. L. Price, and Air. AV. Inst. The patients in the Victoria Hospital express thanks to Airs. Oates, Mrs. Cleveland, Airs. AVebb. Airs. Phillips, Airs. Pope, Airs. Rollinston, and Airs. Robb for their many acts of kindness.

A pleasant afternoon was held in the Cosy Tea Rooms, Alasterton, on Alohday, when Misses Sutherland and Shelton entertained a number of friends to farewell Airs. F. W. Alartin, who leaves Alasterton shortly for Obahuihu, where Air. Alartin has been appointed principal of the Junior High School. All those present expressed regret nt the departure of Airs. Alartin, and wished her every happiness. Among the guests were: Afesdamcs Coridine. AVhittaker. Slater. Hickson, Snnth, Collier, Goldman. Alicbacl. and Alisses Butement, Hogg, Sumpter, Grosnevor, Alatthews, and Riaeh.
