Presentation of Trophies

The closing gathering of the croquet season was held at the Jacobean tea rooms (Alessrs. Kirkcaldie and Stains) yesterday afternoon. Over 200 players and guests were present, and a very pleasant afternoon was spent. Airs. Austin, president of the "Wellington Association, presided, and the guests of . honour included Airs. G. A. Troup, Lady Luke, Alesdames C. Izard, D. AfcKenzie, Jones, Alex. Aloore, and King. Alusical items were rendered by Alesdnmcs Leighton and King. The inter-club shields were presented to the president of the winning club, Airs. Lawrence Watkips receiving the A Grade Shield on behalf of the Kelburn Club, whose No. 1 team had scored the possible number of points- in 9 matches out of 12. Airs. Clark, president of the Wellington Club, received the runner-up trophy (Airs. Rhodes Williams) for her club. In the intermediate grade the shield was won by Upper Hutt Club, Airs. Keys being presented with it, nnd in the B grade, Ngaroma Club was successful, the president, Mrs,, Laurie, receiving the shield. In the champion of champions events Airs. Caldow (Wellington Club) was presented with the A Grade Gold Badge. Airs. Harper. Kelburn’s representative, was successful in the intermediate grade, and Airs. Howatson, Hataitai, in the B grade. Each was the recipient of the association’s gold badge. The presentations were made by Airs. Troup.

A pleasing incident during the afternoon was the receipt of a cablegram from W. Windsor Richards, England, conveying his best washes for a successful function. All the clubs in the district were represented. Afesdames Bassett and Claysen were present from the AVairara.p.i. Dainty posies were presented to Alesdnnies Troup and Austin, during the proceeds, which concluded with the National Anthem.
