Acceptances for the Manawatu and Wellington meetings, to be held on March 25 and 28 respectively, are due to-morrow (Friday). Penalty Increased. At the recent meeting of the New Zealand Trotting Association, tlie Wellington club reported that its judicial committee had held an inquiry into the driving of Lady Author at the club’s February meeting, as a result of which M. Holmes had been cautioned. After discussion the association, by a narrow margin, decided to. alter the local committee's verdict and to Impose a fine of £2O in addition to cautioning him. Lydia Pointer failed to see out the mile and a half at Timaru on Saturday, but the race was run in the smart time of 3.27 1-5, so that her failure need not be taken too seriously. A Hollow Victory. St. George scored a runaway win in the Fairlie Handicap, of two miles, at Timaru, having a margin of twenty ’lengths in his favour when the post was reached. His forward running at the Nelson meeting suggested that he would be a hard horse to beat at the southern meeting, and it was therefore not surprising to find him a good favourite. In Good Shape. Harold Logan Is reported to be in good condition, and It is possible that he may | be seen In action at Addington at Easter. A Promising Juvenile. Compromise registered a very attractive performance when he won the Trial Handicap at Timaru, for he went 3.27 from a 3.40 mark. Unlucky. Ratloc was unlucky in the Scadown Handicap at Timaru, for he got luto a pocket and could not be extricated in time to overhaul Netta Oro, who held a length's advantage at the post. As it was. he went 3.26 2-5. The promising young trotter Todd Lonzia broke during the running of the Kingsdowu Hamlleap. He has the speed, and experience is all that he needs: Improving. Biddy Parrish is now going exceedingly well for W. J. Tomkinson. She trotted steadily throughout the running of tlie Temuka Handicap, and thoroughly deserved to win. The honours of the race, however, went to Lough Guy, who was only defeated a length when conceding 72 yards. Consistent and Good. Real Girl has been racing very consistently, and it was pleasing to see her first home in the Washdyke Handicap. She held a good position early and came away at the finish to win comfortably by two lengths in the smart time of 2.47, or six seconds faster than the mark she was on. ■ Unusual Incident. Tlie Timaru representative of the “Referee’’ reports that there was an unusual inci’dent at Washdyke on Saturday. The owner of a winning horse lodged a complaint with the stewards alleging that tlie totallsator had been reopened and an investment of £5O accepted on his horse. It is understood that the totallsator proprietor was instructed to hold up" payment of the dividend to the late investor pending consideration of the affair. Spelling. Linnett the Great has been fired and is to be given a spell until next season. She has proved herself to be a very capable trotter, but she is none too sound. Cranleiglt Stays On. Cranleigh ran a very good race in the Cup at Timaru. He was one of the leaders throughout, and iu a ding-dona: finish with
