Club Competitions SHORT-RANGE MATCHES

Ideal weather conditions prevailed at Trentham on Saturday. With the season nearing its close, good scores were recorded The Suburbs club concluded its championship, which was won by T. Goodall, with 814 points. The other clubs fired short range matches over 000 and. 500 yards. The top scores at these ranges were made by Petone members: A. Ballinger and O. Pedersen, 9o; and R. H. Nichoil, 94 all off the gun; while members of Karorf and Old Navals reached the standard of 93. ■ Old Navals Club. . Old Navals club fired the semi-final for the Rabe and Franklyn Cups over 300 and 500 yards ranges. The best range scores were:—3ooyds„ W. Mcßain 46, R. Dawson, C. Lawton and F. Standidge.43 each; aOO yards, R. Congreve 48, W. Mcßain 46, P. Congreve 46. Tbe best aggregate gun scores were: W. -Mcßain 92, P. Congreve 88, K. Congreve 87. Karori Club. The concluding official shoot for the season was fired by the Karori club. .It took the form of a field day, shooting being over 300yds. and 500yds. ranges. Afternoon tea was sewed, and then the prizes, and challenge cups won during the season were presented by Mrs. Cauffhley, wife, of the president. Several wives and .friends of members were present, the afternoon taking the place of the club’s annual smoke concert. The leading scores were:—L. A. Calwell, 45, 48, (—), 93; S. H. Perry, 40, 46, (7), 93; J. B. Ritchie, 40, 40, (8), 9». Petone Club. Petone club fired the first match in the extra short range handicap series at 300 and 500 yards. . ♦ Three members bettered the club standard of 93. At 300 yards the top scorer wa« O. Petersen, who returned a card showing 48 (finishing with six bulls-eyes). A. Ballinger was next with 47. The shooting at the 500 yards distance was equally good. In making 49 out of a possible 50, H. L. Rule was unfortunate in scoring the “inner” for his last shot. W. Scambary, A. Ballinger, F. Kershaw and R. H. Nioholl.each scored 48. A. Ballinger and 0. Pedersen came out on top for the. day with 93 each. Tbe spoon-winners were A. Ballinger and O. Pefiersen in A grade; W. Scambary In B grade; F. Harris in C grade.
