RACING IN H.B.

Not Likely This Year COSTS OF RESTORATION Dominion Special Service. Hasringa, March 15. Both the Hawke’s Bay Jockey Club (Hastings) and the Napier Park BacingClub (Napier) shared in the evil fortunes that befell all Hawke’s Bay sporting organisations during the earthquake. The Hawke’s Bay club had arranged a special meeting for February 5. at which 1-t was to be decided whether or not the club should abandon racing for the present year. The earthquake, however, made the meeting Impossible. The Racing Conference has before it an application from the Hawke’s Bay Jockey Club asking for permission to hold a race meeting at Trentham on April 18, and it is understood that the Napier Park Racing Club has made a similar application in respect of April 11. Unless the applications are granted, it is extremely unlikely that either club will race again thhs year. Whatever is said of the Hawke's Bay Jockey Club may be applied to the Hawke’s Bay Hunt Club and the Hawke’s Bay Trotting Club, as all three use the same course, equipment, and buildings. Indeed, it is said that the Hawke’s Bay Jockey Club is only waiting for a decision in regard to Its concrete stands to know whether or not it is to go out of business altogether. It is hoped, however, that £5OO or £6OO may save the buildings from demolition and enable them to be satisfactorily repaired.
