VISITORS TO THE CAPITAL

Air. and Mrs, W. P. Endean, of Parnell, Auckland, have come to Wellington to meet Mr. and Mrs. R. Main Hathaway, of Auckland, who are arriving by the Mataroa from London. Miss Kathleen Harley, of St Martins, Christchurch, is visiting Wellington. ' Mrs. W. Priest has returned to Timaru after a holiday visit to Wellington, where she.has been .the guest of her daughter, Mrs. George Shirtcliffe. Miss Grace Love, of Hastings, is spending a holiday in Wellington. Miss Inez Holdsworth and Miss Lorna Ross, of Hastings, are visiting the Wairarapa and Wellington. Miss Ivy Head has returned to Port Chalmers after a holiday spent in Wellington, Christchurch, and Timaru. Mrs. Gerald Doorly, of Melbourne, who has been spending a brief holiday at Wellington, has returned to Dunedin. Miss Lily Stevens, of Dunedin, in visiting Wellington. CANCER CAMPAIGN A large and representative meeting of the executive and main committee of the. women’s organisation of the British Empire Cancer Campaign, was held at the residence of Mrs. Morice (president) on Tuesday morning. Mrs. Morice spoke on the chief subject of the meeting, which was to discuss the splendid generosity of the New Zealand Shipping Co., Ltd., in placing R.M.S. Rangitata at the disposal of the organisation, to hold a ball on her, on March 3. ... . Lady Luke also spoke of the great kindness of the company, and said that it was an unique offer, and one that would be most helpful in raising funds for the great object. The meeting then discussed some of the arrangements for the evening to be put before the meeting of the men’s committee at their meeting on Friday. A fine offer from the, Social Progress Movement was brought by Mrs. J. C. Andersen and discussed, and much appreciation was expressed, and it was passed to be placed with other suggestions to be considered on Friday. Mrs. Card (Mayoress), Featherston, Mrs. Balcombe Brown, Upper Hutt, Mrs. A. G. Earle, Lower Hutt, were among those who came from some distance, and nearly all the suburban committees were well represented.
