St. Stephen’s Tennis Club
A very successful, flannel social wns held by the members of the St. Stephen’s Tennis Cliub at the church hall on Saturday evening. The hall was tastefully decorated, and over sixty members and friends attended. The guests of honour were Mr. and Mrs. H. W. Kersley and daughter, who have just returned from a visit overseas. Mr. G. Clark, the club captain, acted as M.C. Miss R. Judd contributed an elocutionary .item. ' / After a “community sing” everybody joined in the numerous games and competitions. Called on by the president, Mr. F. Feist, Mrs. H. W. Kersley. the founder of the courts, briefly outlined their history, and presented the club with two htindsome silver cups, miniatures of which at the close of the tennis season will ije presented to the best woman and man -player. ..Mr. I/. Wall, secretary, on behalf of the club, thanked Mrs. Kersley for her gifts. , ■ ’Mr, F. Feist also thanked; the donor, and at the same time offered to supply the timber required for the club’s new pavilion. ‘Mr. G. Clark and Mr. H. Babmgton, club cuptain and treasurer respectively, also spoke on behalf of the members, and expressed their gratitude. .(The Rev. J. E. Lopdell presented medals to* Miss Irene Callender and Mr. L. Fisher, last year’s champions. Supper was served by the ladies, and “Auld Lang Syne” brought the evening to a close.
