Man Issues Bad Cheques Dominion Special Service. Wanganui. December 8. A sentence of 12 months’ reformative detention was imposed -upon. George Cottcrill at the Wanganui Court to-day, on a charge of obtaining iS/S/o bv means of a valueless cheque. He was also charged with obtaining by the same method goods to a value of £2B from various shops and persons in Hawera, Waveilev. Batea and Wanganui. Accused pleaded guilty to all charges. Detective Walsh said that the cheques were all issued during a short period in November. Accused was a dork, and was 20 years of age, he had one previous conviction for obtaining credit by fraud, and was admitted to probation. These offences of issuing valueless cheques were very prevalent in Now Zealand, and were an‘almost daily occurrence, and business people were defrauded of large sums ot money. , Mr. Tustin, for accused, said that the offences were committed as the final result, of a drinking bout. The magistrate said that, accused appeared to have issued the cheques broadtnbn the charge relating to £B/8/6 he was sentenced to 12 months’ reformative detention, and on the others convicted and discharged. _________
