MAKARA AFFAIRS

Hutt Road Maintenance APPROACH TO NEWLANDS The Town Clerk of Wellington advised the Makara County Council yesterday that the council’s share of maintenance of the Hutt Road would be £262/11/3. The chairman, Councillor E. Windley, presided, and there were also present; Councillors W. S. Wheeler, A. J. beddings, J. Purchase, L. C. Bryant, D. Prosser, B, G. Mexted, and R. W. Bothamley. ; , h. . Councillor Mexted reported that the water supply at Titahi Bay was now quite satisfactory. A report had appeared in the Press to the effect that the supply was defective, but this had only concerned one small spring, which had since been put right. , Mr. H. L. Robinson, bon. secretary of the Newlands and Paparangi Progressive Association, wrote drawing attention to the dangerous approach to Newlands from the Ngahauranga Gorge road. Numerous accidents and narrow escapes from serious injury had occurred at this point, and on a recent Sunday a resident of the district had been run into while driving his car out of the Collet's cutting road by a car returning to Wellington. He suggested that a danger sign-board should be erected, and that notice boards should be put up fifty yards from the septic tanks and the same distance below Collet’s cutting road. It would also be advantageous to cut down the willow tress on the creek bank opposite Collet s cutting road. It was agreed to erect the notice boards asked for.
