AMATEUR BOXING
The annual amatbur boxing champion-, ship tournament will be held at the Town Hall on Tuesday and Wednesday next, and the many followers of the amateur sport may look forward to witnessing some excellent bouts during the two nights that the tournament will be held. Many of the well-known amateurs have entered in the various classes, which range from paperweight to heavyweight, and patrons will be very keen to see how these amateurs will fare against the many newcomers who are making the first appearance in the local championships. Many of the competitors arc hoping to win their respective class, and thus gain the honour. of representing the Welilngton Association at the New Zealand championships, which are to be held in Palmerston Nor,th in August. There is also the prospects of a New Zealand boxing team being selected to tour to Australia, and the amateur who is successful in winnng in the local and New Zealand championships may look forward to a place in the New Zealand team in the event of the tour being arranged.
