POWER BOARD DANCE

The decorations at the annual dance given by the Wauganui-Raugitikei Electric Power Board were remarkable for their ingenuity and beauty. The dance room, with its celling representing the blue sky, with myriads of stars and a great revolving "earth,” was particularly attractive. All kinds of greenery, streamers, and coloured lights were used with original effects. The music was supplied by Stone’s orchestra, and the supper by Mrs. White, the board’s cooking demonstrator. The guests were received by Mr. Purnell (chairman of the board) and Mrs. Purnell, and Mrs. P. 11. Smith. The committee were: Mrs. Cutelli, Miss Fear, Messrs. V. Richardson, Howes and Sutcliffe. Mr. F. H. Killeen acted as M.C.

Among those present were Mesdames W A. Izard, Hope Gibbons, G. J. Adams, T. Oldaker, V. H. Richardson, W. Low, E. Jackson, W. Hughes, WebbJones, Crawford, Kelaher, H. Webb, F. H. Killeen, Treloar, J. Patterson, R. Hardy, Giddens, G. Fear, Ammudsen, A. F. White, Osborne, Kidd, Birchfield, Abercrombie, K. Holdaway, A. Pepper, R. Cutelli, Newman, Hawkin, E. Calkin, H. Richardson (Marton', Oldridge, H. B. Keenan, G. McMillen, A. Kidd, T. Knowles, Misses E. Hall, Pitts, D. Anderson, G. Gould, Staples, E. Wilkie, M. Smith, G. and J. Fear, N. Halligan, M. Webb, L. The Studio Club dances which are held every fortnight by Miss Margaret O’Connor in her studio are always crowded with pupils, ex-pupils and their friends. Several surprise items, which go to make these evenings unusual, were given recently, one being a novelty burlesque ballet danced by Messrs. Robbie, Sweetzer. Wilis ami Laflin. There were also a number of competitions, one being the “lucky number” dance, which was won by Miss P. Davidson and Mr. BryCrs. Mrs. T. Martin, Marlborough, is on a visit to Wanganui.

The term “sports clothes” covers a wide field of dress to-day. Never before has the line been softer or more chic than at the present moment. Agnes Samson, Customhouse Quay, is displaying new woollens for wearing now and all through the chilly spring days in the way of suits and dresses. A green and white tweed suit in the newer weave has a three-quarter coat lined with a tiny patterned chiffon tweed which also makes the skirt. A dress of natural jersCy tweed flecked with red and blue, features inverted pleats, pockets, buttons, and a narrow stitched belt. The popular tweed cardigan suit in an drange and cream tweed has a yoke to the skirt, while the coat has pin tucks and a stltched-down collar and lapels. A pleasing Innovation. A chiffon tweed dress in two shades of green has a three-quarter coat.to match. An attractive deep cornflower blue dress of wool crepella has a tweed coat of the same tonings.—Advt
