WOULD REPUDIATE
Payments to Bondholders
LABOUR M.P.’S IDEA
“No Further Interest”
Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright. (Rec. July 24, 10.35 p.m.) Canberra, July 24. Speaking on the Budget, Mr. Yates, a Labour member, denounced Commonwealth bondholders and protested against continued payment to them. “In another ten years we shall have paid Interest to the bondholders equal to the full amount borrowed, and we shall still be Indebted to them for the principal. We have paid two hundred and nineteen millions sterling of interest on the war debt What I would do Is just what the bondholders have done to others, I would hand them back their securities and notes and say you will get no further interest”
