PAHIATUA NOTES

Pahiatua, May 3. The annual meeting of parishioners of St. Peter’s Anglican Church was held on Thursday night. Thereport and bal-ance-sheet were adopted. Fourteen nominations were received for the ten seats on the vestry, and the following' were elected:—Messrs. H. Hirst, G. Haines, Rule, E. Whitcombe (country members), G. G. Tnylor, Vowell, L.’ Wales, J. T. Smith, J. D. C. Crewe, and H. Ball. Mr. F. Paynter was re-elected treasurer, and Messrs .It. O. Austin and S. K. Siddells auditors. Mr. J. H. Bremner is on a visit to New Plymouth. The Pahiatua Bowling Club has decided to close its green for the season today. The Pahiatua Swimming Club has ar- ’ ranged for a “street stall” to augment its funds. Although four successful carnivals were held during the year, the interim balance-sheet disclosed a loss on the season’s workings of £5, owing to unavoidable extraordinary expenditure. The Pahiatua Boxing Club opened its season on Thursday night. There was a very large gathering of members and pupils, and interest and enthusiasm were keen. The club has decided to hold an “open night’’ on May 20, and its first tournament of tht season within the next six weeks. Mr. 15. Oxley lias- been appointed honorary instructor. :
