MOTOR SHIPS
’ LARGE NUMBER UNDER CONSTRUCTION London, December 31. “Motor-ship” announces that the record number of 350 motor-ships, of a tonnage of 2J millions, are being built in the New Year, of which forty are passenger liners, and 130 oil tankers. The tonnage of motor-ships in hand is believed to be far greater than that of steamers. FASTEST MERCHANT VESSEL London, January 1. The largest and fastest merchant vessel in the world has been laid down in France by the Compagnie Generale Trans-Atlantique, says the “Daily Telegraph.” It is expected to have a speed of thirty-one knots, and cover the journey from Havre to New York in four and a-quarter days.
