SELECTION OF TEST TEAM By Telegraph.—Press Association. Palmerston North, December 28. New Zealand’s best croquet players are at present gathered in Palmerston North, where a test tournament is being played to select a team of six players who will represent the Dominion against Australia early in January. Of the 20 candidates all are eager for the honour, eleven are ladies and nine men. At a special meeting held in Palmerston North the New Zealand Croquet Council decided that the first two members of the team selected should be the two ladies winning the most matches in the ladies’ contest, and that the remaining members of the team should be the four players, excluding ladies already selected, who win the most matches in an open event in conjunction with the trials. The competition is being played in the form of a Yankee tournament. The results of yesterday’s play are: — Mrs. Pitcaithly (Hastings) beat G.
