ISLAND BAY CARNIVAL
REMOVED TO NEW SITE. 111-luck seems to have dogged the Island Bay Life Saving and Surf Club s carnival, at present being held. On Thursday the wind blew the skittle booth down and last night there was a sandstorm suliiciently bad to mar the proceedings. One of the electric light wires broke, putting the show into complete darkness. The committee resourcefully arranged for motor headlights to shine upon -the sceiie, but the unpleasant conditions spoilt the evening, and it was decided to move to a more sheltered site, work being immediately commenced to that end. “We hope to have everything ready for 2.30,” said the secretary of tlie club (Mr. N. A. Ingram) last night. On New. Year’s Eve, the Boys’ Institute Band will play from 8 p.m. until 1 o’clock on Wednesday morning, and late ears to town have been arranged for. Friday will be a mothers’ and children s day, and there will be rides on the merry-go-round and a treasure hunt tor the little ones, and a lucky baby competition will also be held. The carnival is being conducted with the object of obtaining a surf-boat for the club.
