SCOTS COLLEGE

£6OOO IN SIGHT The campaign to save Scots College is reported to be proceeding satisfactorily, and although only seven days have elapsed since the fund was started, the total is now very close to £6OOO. The special representatives who are touring the Wairarapa district report that the whole district is concerned at the suggested sale, and people are coming forward with handsome donations. The same applies to the Manawatu, where prominent citizens arc lending their support to the movement. The organisers state that they are confident of reaching their objective, but it will only be possible by a united effort. The return of the Minister of Education to Wellington is awaited, when a large deputation will place before him the views of the Parents’ and Old Boys Association, and of the Board of Governors regarding the request for n postponement of the Government’s option for at least fourteen days. Meanwhile an urgent call for donations is made to all interested. It is believed that the small contribution is going to decide the issue, particularly in regard to the final two or three thousand pounds, and the committe will welcome any help, however small it may be. The question has been asked. will £16.000 put the college on a sound financial footing, and those in a position to judge are satisfied that this will be so. PARENTS’ SUPPORT A well-attended meeting of the Scots College Parents’ Association was held on Monday evening. Mr. Black being in the chair. The meeting was very enthusiastic over the subject of saving the college. By permission of the headmaster the sports were arranged for next Saturday, when it is hoped that parents, old boys and well-wishers will be present in force. A card evening mid dance has been arranged for Saturday at the college, when it is hoped to see a good muster, ns the proceeds will be devoted to the “Save the College” fund. A strong committee of ladies was formed to promote a gala day next month.
