LIFE-SAVING
WORSER BAY CLUB Weather not of the best for swimming was experienced by the Worser Bay Surf Club for its official opening on Saturday afternoon. The president (Mr. W. Gary), in addressing those present, appealed for greater support of the club, and said that life-saving clubs generally could be made more effective with a larger membership. Mr. R. Semple, M.l’., in declaring the club’s season open, congratulated members on the success of last season. The club had won the Wallace Cup, the Noviee Cup and 25 awards for lifesaving, which was a wonderful accomplishment. The membership of the club was increasing and indications were for a prosperous season. He was sure the citizens of Wellington appreciated the work that was- being done on the foreshore by the life-saving clubs. Young men gave their energy, time and money and risked their lives endeavouring to protect their fellow citizens. As member for Hie district he had tried to get the City Council to make 'Worser Bay better than it was at the present time, as improvements were urgently needed. There was no reason why some of the unemployment relief money should not be spent on the foreshore. Mr. A. C. Kitto, representing the Worser Bay Boating Club, also spoke. A display of life-saving was given and competitions were conducted by the club.
