TREATING FLAX

NEW METHOD CLAIMED FIBRE AFTER 50 WEEKS Palmerston North, November 22. What is claimed to be strong marketable flax of good quality produced within 50 weeks of planting is to be submitted to Dr. Yeates, of Massey Agricultural College, by Mr. L. Craw, of Linton. The secret of the quick production of the new'plant is the elimination of the stripping process, says Mr. Craw. The fibre undergoes a new process of treatment which consists of immersing it in boiling water and putting it through rollers under*a patent method. Normally it takes nearly seven years before flax can be put through the stripper. Mr. Craw is undertaking the treatent of a ‘block of thirty acres of flax, and so far has produced about a ton of fibre.
