LEVIN NOTES
The rural credits system is increasing in Bfipularity locally. At the first annual meeting it was reported that 29 applications for loans, representing £10,430, had been successfully dealt with.
A popular wedding in Levin was that of Mr. Jno. Honore. of Gladstone Road, to Miss Vera Crowe, of Kimberley Road. The ceremony was performed by the Rev. J. C. Davies, in St. Mary’s Church. Miss Esme Hogg,., of Kuku, was bridesmaid, and Mr. Jack Cotterill was best man. The numerous presents included two chairs and a table in oak, (ivhich were presented by the local residents on a previous occasion, when they met at the home of Mr. and Mrs. A. J. Gimblett. The borough sanitary inspector will attend a refresher course for health and sanitary inspectors, to be held in Christchurch in January. The death has occurred of Mrs. G. J. Stratton, an old settler, whose parents came out to New Zealand in 1863. Deceased lived in Palmerston for nearly 20 years, and Manakau for 17 years,. For many years she was a great worker for St. Mary’s Church. She leaves a family of four. The W.C.T.U. garden party, held in the gfounUs of Miss Bowen, Queen Street, was very successful. The grounds and weather were both ideal. Games, competitions, and dainty afternoon tea filled a pleasant afternoon. The board overseer has returned from a trip to Sydney. The transfer of Mr. Len. Astridgq from the local telephone bureau to Otaki will greatly affect the working of the Whakatane Club and Wesley Tennis Club, and much regret is felt at his departure.
