0 AGREEMENT REACHED Dominion Special Service. Auckland, November 2. The trouble with the slaughtermen at the city abattoir and the works of R. and W. Hellaby Ltd., Westfield, Ms definitely ended. After a lengthy conference between the parties, which lasted the greater portion of the forenoon, delegates emerged from the committee room at the Town Hall in smiling mood and announced that an agreement had been reached which was satisfactory to both parties. The suggested agreement, which arose from the first conference yesterday afternoon, had been submitted to the men first thing this morning, when the Conciliation Commissioner, Mr. P. Hally, visited the works at Westfield. The offer was not considered satisfactory, and was therefore declined by the slaughtermen, who continued at work meanwhile. The agreement arrived at at the final conference to-day, as announced by the Mayor (Mr. G. Baildon) is as follows: —“The award to remain in accordance with the finding of the Court, but alternative thereto as an arrangement between the parties, a flat . rate of lOd. per carcass to be paid for pigs up to 2001 b., and over that weight Is. 3d. per carcass, provided that the employee executes the whole of the work as provided by the award; that the price for long-shanked sheep be £2 3s. 9d. per 100, and for short-shanked sheep and lambs £1 18s. 9d. per 100.”
