The friends of Mr. A. J. Palmer, of Palmerstop North, will regret to learn that he is at present in hospital suffering from an attack of pneumonia. Mr. Hubert Carter, of Wanganui, leaves to-day for Wellington in readiness for the dress rehearsals of “Hiawatha,” which is to be played next week in Wellington. Mr. W. D. Reilly, the well-known golfer of Patea, leaves shortly to take up residence in Wanganui. Mr. Ernest Drake, of Dunedin, is the soloist at the forthcoming male choir concert iu Wanganui. Bishop Sprott, of Wellington, was in Wanganui to hold a confirmation service in the Little Chapel of All Saiuts, Wanganui East, last evening. Mr. A. E. Friend (guard) and Mr. W. McCulloch (driver), who have just completed 40 years’ service with the New Zealand ‘Railways, were tendered a social evening by their fellow-employees at the Masterton railway station on Wednesday night, when Dr. D. Mahoney (stationmaster) presided. The usual toasts were honoured, and presentations were made to Mr. nnd Mrs. McCulloch of a clock and a Set of bowls, and to Mr. and Mrs. Friend of a suitcase and a wallet containing notes.
