INTERESTING OLD COIN
A DUNEDIN FIND Dominion Special Service Dunedin, October 31. While digging in his garden during the week, Mr. John Prouse, of Josephine Street, Caversham, ■ unearthed an old coin of considerable interest. Apparently a genuine Georgian coin, it has one peculiar feature. The face is stamped with “Georgius 111 Dei Gratia," while the date (1701) is quite clear on the reverse. One of these imprints is obviously incorrect, as George HI did not ascend the throne until 1760. King William was reigning in 1701, and was succeeded by Queen Anne. The coin has been referred to several collectors, but none has been able to speak definitely as to its authenticity or value. It is of very light copper, slightly smaller than a shilling.
