QUESTION OF BAIL
POLICE OPPOSITION Dominion Special Service. Christchurch, October 31. An application for bail-made to Mr. E. C. Lewy, S.M., in the Magistrate s Court to-dqy, was opposed by the police, in a case in which they allege that a man deserted his wife in England after be ha been married for a week, and then went through the form of marriage with an ther woman in New Zealand. . Maurice William Baker, a Christchurch advertising agent, aged 32, was ‘-harmed that being married he went dl rou h a form of marriage with Nancy Patricia Holmes at Wellington on January <-> ,o Accused was remanded until November 7, and his counsel asked for bail. . “I oppose bail,” said Chief Det - Carroll. “This man ” ,ar U e d } n rm e land and left his wife after a week.
