DANNEVIRKE NOTES
Dannevirke, August 3. The raintail recorded at Dannevirke for July was 3.05 inches, spread over 17 days, which may be reckoned as a fair average for that month in this district. Five cases of pneumonic influenza were reported by the health officer in Dannevirkc borough last month, but the epidemic of scarlet fever seems to have passed, no fresh cases having been reported ior that: period. Sickness has been very prevalent and has affected and still does affect the attendances at Hie school. The annual report of the Dannevirke Racing Club shows a profit of £291, against a loss of £509 on the preceding year, while in addition a sum of £lBO had been written oft for depreciation on buildings and plant. The totalisator investments for the year were £34,619, as compared with £32,300 the previous year, the gross receipts from this source being £■l7lB 4s. 94., against £4394 4s. 3d. the previous year. Taxation paid by the club amounted to £2532 2s. lid.. £97 representing amusement tax. An effort is being made to raise £3OOO by means of debentures in order to relieve the guarantors of their retiuoasibliils,
