OUTBREAK OF FIRE
EARLY MORNING ALARJI AT PALMERSTON. Palmerston North, August 4. An earlv morning fire, whieh prompt work by the fire brigade, presented assuming serious proportions, occurred this morning. A,t 1.29 o’clock Palmerston North fire brigade received a call to the Queen’s Buildings in the Square. On arriving the brigade found smoke pouring from the entrance tq_ a furniture shop, and ou breaking in found kapok, straw, horsehair, aud other material in a workshop at the rear of the building well alight. Smart work by the brigade prevented more than slight damage to the workshop, and in front of the building the only damage is to stock, which was principally affected by the thick smoke. No insurances are available. The building is owne.d by Mrs. A. I arsons, of Palmerston North, and the portion affected is the Alexander Furniture Arcade, occupied by Jfr. A. Parsons.
